The buffalo photos displayed here are all of the Cape or African buffalo (Syncerus caffer) and were taken in South Africa's Kruger National Park,
the Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia, and the Chobe National Park in Botswana.
The African buffalo is a gregarious animal occurring in herds of up to several thousands. But unlike domestic cattle and the water buffalo found in parts of Asia,
this species is short-tempered and extremely dangerous, particularly older bulls and solitary animals when they feel threatened.
